Revit Outsourcing & Overflow Support

Revit overflow support explained

Overflow is a defined package of modelling, documentation or setup when the office is busy — not unlimited availability or a remote staff member.

Architecture practices look for Revit overflow support when the programme is real and the modelling hours are not. A drawing issue is due. A model needs catching up. Documentation is stacking. Hiring is too slow, and open-ended extra hands still have to be briefed, reviewed and absorbed into the studio. Overflow, as RVTForm uses the term, is simpler: send a defined package of Revit work, agree the fee, get the agreed files back.

What can be in the package

A scoped overflow job can include modelling, model development, revisions, documentation, sheet production or project setup — or a short combination of those, if they are listed. It is not unlimited availability, a remote staff member, or a standing instruction to “help with whatever comes in”.

When a practice should outsource

  • The information exists and can be handed over
  • The deliverable can be written down
  • The in-house team will review the issue, not abdicate it
  • The job is production, not unresolved design

UK and US practices

Revit modelling services, CAD to Revit and scan to BIM searches look similar in the UK and the USA. The production problem is the same: extra capacity on a defined scope. What does change is convention — sheet naming, titleblocks, units, and which Revit version the office runs. Those belong in the brief. They do not need a separate website for each country.

Extra hands vs a production package

Open-ended extra capacity still has to be briefed, reviewed and absorbed into the studio process. A specialist Revit production service is for when the practice wants a package completed: quoted, produced, reviewed, delivered. The difference is whether scope was written down, whether questions were asked instead of guessed, and whether the returned .RVT is organised enough for the in-house team to keep using.

What overflow is not

It is not a hire. The practice does not add a person to the team, manage their hours, or keep them available between jobs. It is not staff augmentation, where someone sits inside the office process indefinitely. It is not an open-ended retainer for whatever arrives next week. It is not BIM consultancy, information-management advice, or an ISO appointment. Those are different services. Overflow is a written package of Revit production with a fee, a programme and a deliverable.

RVTForm quotes each overflow package on its own. Send the project information. There is no account required to start.

Questions

No. Overflow is a specialist production package: scope, fee and programme agreed before work begins. It is not an extra person in the studio, and not open-ended availability.
